f506
An unusual and complete version of a Late Victorian canopy on legs c1890 with a moveable hood to control the fire.
It still has it's original fireclay firewalls contained in a cast iron framework which sweeps down to the front grate and decorative bar, beneath which there is a substantial ash box.
Tile panels (around 12 inch wide by 38 high inch) would sit on either side of it, tapering inwards from the fire surround.
Normally some colouring in the tile panels would be duplicated in the hearth.
