A Georgian hobgrate from the 1830's with finely detailed decoration.
A large single rib frames the opening in the top corners of which are stylised leaf details. The leaf patterns are echoed on the forward facing legs of the hobs while the chamfered section leading back to the grate opening is very finely ribbed.
The hob plates are 9 inches deep and 5 inches across on each side of the fire - ample standing room for a small kettle or pan - with a minimum height clearance of 10 inches.
The ribbing continues above the hobs on the tapering sides leading to a plain backplate. The grate is supported behind fixed multiple bars the lowest of which is edged with a leaf motif.
At the very bottom there is a small footing that steps forward about half an inch deep across the forward facing aspect of the piece.

A large hob grate c 1820 with curved fluted side panels, very deep front bars and roundel decoration on the cast iron back panel.
This fireplace could be built into a chimney breast with or without a mantelpiece but would probably suit a bullseye cast iron, stone or timber chimneypeice.
The back panel has been sturdily repaired but otherwise it is in Excellent condition.
