The decoration around this arch is inspired by Islamic designs featuring images of the sun, moon and stars with interlacing incised framing lines. Elements of this decoration are reflected in the enlarged and embossed detail on the crescent hood.

The three bars get y more decorative progressivel from the top (plain) down the central one has a cartouche and the bottom is covered with acanthus leaf like relief. The hood enables a high output gas fire to be used.
