Fireplace fascias are flat cast iron plates with elements of traditional Victorian and Edwardian fireplace styling and a standard opening to fit modern gas fires.
Traditional Victorian Cast Iron Fireplaces are not best suited to modern, efficient gas fires which work best when the flue draught is just enough to remove fumes. The holes in cast iron firebacks for solid fuel are too big to balance the volume of air flow and fumes from a gas fire.
Traditional cast iron or reproduction fireplaces also have bars, hoods, arches or decoration that get in the way of standard gas fires in a box (hot boxes)
Almost all living flame gas fires in cast fireplace inserts are a gas fire tray in the bottom of the fireplace where the grate would normally be.
Efficent modern gas fires have their own fireback and are designed to be fitted on a flat surface in a standard 22 inch x 16 inch fire opening
Our fireplace fascia plates are ideal for the installation of most front fitting gas fires as they have standard fireplace openings and a flat area to seal to as well as having a classic Victorian look. They are also sized to fit inside most mantles whether wooden, cast iron, marble, limestone or slate.
A chimney's natural draught removes any fumes and large old class I flues allow too much heat to escape upwards reducing a gas fires efficiency. High Output Gas Fires have a different fireback with a smaller aperture to lose less heat up chimney. They are only available for certain models or fireplace.
The Shire Newton Fascia is designed to incorporate a basket type fire, but reduces the fireplace opening size of a traditional mantel to prevent smoke escaping into the room space.
