Hob grates were a feature of many Georgian and early Victorian homes They combined a fireplace with hobs or shelves on which to stand kettles or irons to heat them up.
Traditionally hob grates were made from cast iron but our modern hobgrates are made from steel. This means that they are not suitable for a solid fuel fire as they may discolour. However realistic living flame gas fires are available with either coal or log effects.
