In Victorian times wooden mantels tended to be made from mahogany. If made from pine they would be painted to look like a more expensive wood or painted white with gilded detailing. In Edwardian times taller wooden mantels in mahogany or oak were inroduced often with large mirrors.
The timber and finishes (dark, medium and light) can be varied and we can colour match to samples if needed.
All of these surrounds are priced as "made to measure". We will keep the price the same unless there is some significant variation in size or detailing that you require.
The rebate (the gap behind the mantle where the fireplace insert sits) can be varied to suit the fireplace insert that you require.
The standard rebate for a Cast Iron Fireplace Insert is 1 inch
The standard rebate for a Slabbed Tiled Fireplace Insert is 2 inch
The rebate for many Fireplace Inserts with Angled Tile Panels or recessed openings is 3 inch to 4 inch
For rebates above 4 inch there will be an extra charge.
